Pedestrian Ralph Marin Killed in Santa Ana Hit-and-Run Accident

Santa Ana, CA (October 20, 2024) – In the early hours of Sunday, October 20, 31-year-old Ralph Marin tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in Santa Ana.

Accident Details: According to the Santa Ana Police Department, Marin was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Bristol Street while crossing near Park Lane at approximately 12:30 a.m. The driver responsible for the initial impact fled the scene. Shortly after, a second vehicle ran over Marin, but this driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Despite life-saving efforts, Marin was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.

Hit-and-Run Driver: The driver who fled the scene could face criminal charges and civil liability if found. California law treats hit-and-run accidents resulting in death or severe injury as a criminal offense. Additionally, Marin’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for emotional suffering, funeral expenses, and any loss of financial support resulting from his death.

Second Driver: If the second driver’s actions are found to contribute in any way to Marin’s death, even though they stayed to cooperate with the investigation, they may still face partial liability. Investigators will examine whether they were speeding, impaired, or distracted.

Road Conditions: Investigators should also examine the road conditions, lighting, and signage to see if they contributed to the crash. The local municipality may be implicated if there are road defects or hazards, poor lighting, or improper signage.

I offer my deepest condolences to Ralph Marin’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. I hope they find strength and support from their community as they navigate the aftermath of this devastating incident.
