Pedestrian Killed in Semi-Truck Collision While in Crosswalk in Chicago

Chicago, IL (May 16, 2025) — A 44-year-old man was fatally struck by a semi-truck Friday afternoon while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred shortly after noon in the 2100 block of South Ashland Avenue. Authorities say the pedestrian was walking within a designated crosswalk when a southbound semi-truck struck him. Emergency responders transported the man to Stroger Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family. It is unclear whether the truck driver remained at the scene or whether any citations or arrests have been made.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Police continue investigating the circumstances of the collision and will review evidence to determine whether driver negligence, such as failure to yield at a crosswalk, distracted driving, or improper lane usage, contributed to the crash.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.
