Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA (July 23, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision at 12:22 a.m. in San Francisco’s Mission Terrace neighborhood.

Accident Details: The crash occurred at Mission Street and Santa Rosa Avenue. Emergency responders arrived to find an injured male. The victim died at the scene. His name and age have not yet been released.

SFPD reports that the driver fled the scene. As of 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, the hit-and-run suspect had not yet been located, and investigators continue to seek information.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: To reconstruct the accident and identify the cause, investigators will examine the following:

  • Crosswalk or signal status at the time of the collision;
  • Lighting and visibility at the intersection;
  • Speed, vehicle type, and point of impact; and
  • Surveillance footage, license plate readers, and witness accounts.

In San Francisco, pedestrians have broad legal protections, particularly in marked crosswalks and signal-controlled intersections.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation and if the driver is identified, the family of the deceased may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the man who was killed.
