Jurupa Valley, CA (January 2, 2025) – A tragic crash in Jurupa Valley claimed the life of 42-year-old pedestrian Freddie Medina and left another pedestrian critically injured on the evening of Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Accident Details: The collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Soto Avenue. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies arrived to find two pedestrians lying in the street and the driver of the involved vehicle present at the scene. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Medina succumbed to his injuries. The second pedestrian remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Friday evening. Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Investigators will likely examine factors such as the vehicle’s speed, visibility conditions, traffic controls at the intersection, road defects, mechanical malfunctions, and the two pedestrians’ behavior at the time of the collision. Regarding the driver, they will investigate possible impairment, distraction, and other traffic violations.
The family of Freddie Medina may be able to file a wrongful death claim if evidence shows the driver’s negligence caused the fatal crash. This claim can compensate for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering. For the surviving pedestrian, a personal injury claim may be appropriate to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering if their critical injuries were caused by negligence.
I extend my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Freddie Medina during this incredibly difficult time. I also wish for the swift recovery of the surviving pedestrian.
