San Diego, CA (November 14, 2025) – A tragic crash in San Diego’s Midway area late Friday night left a pedestrian dead.
Accident Details: According to the county Medical Examiner, the collision occurred around 11:15 p.m. when a vehicle traveling through the intersection of Camino Del Rio West and Hancock Street hit a man who was crossing the roadway on foot. Emergency crews arrived shortly after the impact and provided medical care before transporting the injured pedestrian, later identified as 32-year-old Keondre Alejandre, to UC San Diego Medical Center. Despite efforts to save his life, Alejandre succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the following morning.
Investigation: The crash remains under active investigation, and officials will work to determine how the collision unfolded. Investigators are expected to examine several key elements, including:
- Scene evidence. Officers will map the intersection, document debris patterns, and photograph the area where the pedestrian was struck to understand the vehicle’s direction of travel and the point of impact.
- Driver and vehicle factors. The investigation may include reviewing the driver’s statements, inspecting the vehicle for damage or mechanical issues, and analyzing whether speeding, distraction, or failure to yield contributed to the incident.
- Pedestrian movement. Authorities will attempt to determine where and how the pedestrian was crossing the road.
- Road conditions. Lighting, roadway design, signage, and traffic flow at that hour will be reviewed to assess whether any conditions made the pedestrian harder to see.
- Video and witness accounts. Investigators may collect nearby surveillance footage, examine traffic camera recordings, and gather statements from witnesses or passing motorists to create a more complete timeline.
Once all evidence is evaluated, accident reconstruction specialists can piece together the series of events leading up to the collision.
Legal Considerations: Fatal pedestrian crashes often involve questions of negligence, including whether the driver exercised proper caution when approaching an intersection at night. Motorists must maintain a safe speed, scan for pedestrians, and be cautious in case someone is crossing the road. Likewise, investigators will consider whether the pedestrian’s location in the roadway or movement contributed to the circumstances of the crash.
Depending on the findings, Alejandre’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation in a wrongful death case may address funeral expenses, the loss of financial support or services the individual provided, and the emotional hardship suffered by surviving relatives. The outcome of the official investigation will help determine whether negligence played a role and whether civil remedies may be available.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Keondre Alejandre during this heartbreaking time.
