Orange, CA (August 27, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday night by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy driving a patrol vehicle in Orange.
Accident Details: According to Lt. Phil McMullen of the Orange Police Department, the collision occurred in the 3500 block of East Chapman Avenue. The pedestrian, described only as an adult male, was walking outside of a crosswalk when he was hit. Paramedics responded but pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
Authorities said the on-duty deputy was traveling westbound in the number two lane when the impact occurred. The deputy stopped immediately afterward. A witness reported that the patrol car also struck a white vehicle, but police have not confirmed whether a second vehicle was involved.
Investigation: Police said there was no indication that the deputy had activated lights or sirens at the time of the crash. The Orange Police Department, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, is investigating. The roadway was closed for several hours as the major accident investigation team processed the scene.
