Florence County, SC (July 21, 2025) – A crash involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV on Monday morning claimed one life and left another person with minor injuries.
Accident Details: The collision occurred around 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 378 and Park Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate the tractor-trailer was traveling west on US 378 when it struck an SUV that was heading north on Park Avenue and attempting to turn onto the highway. After the impact, the semi-truck left the road and came to rest in a ditch.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is actively investigating the cause of the incident.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: In fatal crashes involving commercial vehicles, investigators will carefully examine:
- Who had the right of way;
- Traffic signal status or signage at the intersection;
- Speed and visibility for both vehicles;
- Braking and evasive action taken by the drivers; and
- Possible distractions.
Evidence such as dashcam footage, vehicle telematics, and witness statements may shape potential liability findings.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of the deceased may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.
I extend my sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life in this crash. I also wish a fast recovery to the individual injured.
