One Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-5 Near Camp Pendleton

San Diego County, CA (March 31, 2025) – A fatal crash on northbound Interstate 5 near Las Pulgas Road slowed traffic early Monday morning and prompted a response from the California Highway Patrol.

Incident Details: The crash was reported at approximately 4:21 a.m. on the northbound side of I-5, just south of Las Pulgas Road near Camp Pendleton. CHP confirmed that at least one person was killed in the collision. Lanes were initially closed while emergency crews responded but were reopened by 6 a.m. after the scene was moved to the center divide.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: As of now, authorities have not released information regarding the cause of the crash or how many vehicles were involved. Investigators will work to determine whether speed, distraction, road conditions, or mechanical issues played a role. In fatal freeway collisions, surviving family members may consider pursuing a wrongful death claim if another party is found to be at fault.
