BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 21, 2025) — California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a crash involving three vehicles that left one person trapped Tuesday night on Panama Road near Cottonwood Road in Bakersfield.
Accident Details: The collision occurred just before 9 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Three vehicles—a Toyota, a Lexus sedan, and a Nissan SUV—were involved in the crash near the intersection. News footage from the scene showed heavy damage to at least two of the vehicles, with debris scattered across multiple lanes.
Kern County Fire personnel and sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene, using extraction tools to free a person pinned inside one of the vehicles. That individual was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though their condition has not been released.
Witnesses reported that emergency crews worked for an extended period to stabilize the vehicles and clear the roadway. Traffic in the area was redirected while tow trucks removed the damaged cars.
Investigation: CHP is still determining how the vehicles collided and whether speeding, distraction, or a traffic signal violation contributed to the crash. Officers documented skid marks and vehicle positions before removing the cars for further inspection.
Authorities have not indicated whether drugs or alcohol were factors. The investigation remains open as officers review witness statements and possible surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Legal Considerations: Multi-car wrecks at intersections can present many questions about visibility, timing, and driver attention. Investigators will review the order of impact and whether anyone failed to yield or entered the crossing on a red light.
