Cactus City, CA (July 12, 2024) – A tragic off-road vehicle accident claimed the life of 64-year-old Charles Housewright II of Indio.
Accident Overview and Investigation: The incident occurred near the Cactus City rest area in the open desert west of Cottonwood Springs Road and north of Interstate 10. Housewright was driving southbound on a dirt road when his Can-Am Outlander 570 quad overturned. According to CHP Officer David Torres, there was no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. First, the investigators must examine whether the Can-Am Outlander 570 quad was in proper working condition. Investigating whether any mechanical failures or defects contributed to the accident is essential. Findings of negligence may implicate the manufacturer or service provider. Similarly, investigators must examine the terrain of the road, and identifying any hazardous conditions that could have caused the vehicle to overturn is crucial. Were the proper signs in place? The local municpality may be implicated for any negligence in road conditions. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Housewright’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Charles Housewright II during this difficult time.
