National City, CA (August 6, 2025) — A man was killed early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in the South Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: Authorities say the crash happened around 1 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5, just south of Mile of Cars Way. The bicyclist, whose identity has not yet been released, was hit by a BMW X3 and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP officials report that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The cause and circumstances remain under investigation, including the bicyclist’s position on the roadway and visibility at the time of impact. In fatal collisions, surviving family members may have the right to pursue wrongful death claims to cover funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and other damages.
