1 Dead, 3 Hospitalized in Head-On Collision Near Sonoma Raceway

Napa County, CA (June 7, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash on California Highway 121 claimed the life of one man and left a mother and her two children seriously injured Friday afternoon.

Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred around 4:38 p.m. just north of CA Highway 37, near the Sonoma Raceway. A solo male driver in a 2024 Toyota Venza was traveling southbound when he crossed the double-yellow lines, colliding head-on with a northbound 2011 Lexus RX450. The Lexus was being driven by a mother with her 15-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter as passengers.

The Toyota caught fire after the crash, and the male driver was pronounced dead at a Napa hospital at 5:36 p.m. The mother sustained major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, while her children were airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital. CHP noted that only one of the two children had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the collision. At this time, it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role. Investigators will examine road conditions, vehicle mechanics, and witness statements to determine contributing factors and any potential liabilities.
