Pedestrian Naipoo Saechao Jr., 29, Killed in Yolo County Crash

Yolo County, California  (February 7, 2026) — A 29-year-old Sacramento County man was killed Saturday night after being struck by a pickup truck near the town of Zamora, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities identified the victim as Naipoo Saechao Jr.

The collision occurred around 8:40–8:43 p.m. on County Road 99W, north of County Road 12.

Incident Details: According to CHP’s Woodland Division, a Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound on County Road 99W when it struck Saechao, who was in the roadway. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Saechao was pronounced dead there due to the severity of his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding why Saechao was in the roadway at the time of the collision. The Yolo County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity after notification of next of kin.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the fatal crash. Officials stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors.

In pedestrian collisions that occur at night, investigators typically examine lighting conditions, visibility, vehicle speed, roadway design, and whether the pedestrian was crossing a marked or unmarked area. Rural roadways like County Road 99W often lack street lighting, which can significantly impact driver reaction time and pedestrian visibility.

CHP investigators may also review physical evidence from the roadway, vehicle damage patterns, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage to reconstruct how the impact occurred. Determining positioning, line of sight, and braking distance will be key components in establishing a clear sequence of events.

No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Considerations: Fatal pedestrian collisions often raise complex questions regarding roadway safety, driver attentiveness, and pedestrian right-of-way laws. Even when impairment is not suspected, civil liability may still be examined in light of the totality of the circumstances. Each roadway fatality leaves lasting consequences for families and communities. Nighttime pedestrian crashes, in particular, highlight the shared responsibility between drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant, especially on darker, higher-speed rural roads.

If negligence is ultimately established, the Saechao family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim to address funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the emotional toll of the loss.

I extend my sincere condolences to Naipoo’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
