Murrieta, CA (August 7, 2025) – A woman was killed Thursday evening when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light in Murrieta and slammed into her vehicle.
Accident Details: The crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of California Oaks Road and Skyview Ridge. Investigators say 39-year-old Jaime Ruiz Jr., of Murrieta, was driving a pickup truck westbound when he allegedly ran a red light and collided with a sedan traveling through the intersection.
The driver of the sedan, a woman whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Ruiz had one of his children in the truck at the time of the crash. The child was unharmed.
Ruiz was arrested at the scene after officers determined he was displaying signs of alcohol impairment. He was later booked on suspicion of DUI gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI resulting in injuries, and child endangerment. Ruiz posted a $75,000 bond and was released from jail Friday morning.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will review toxicology reports, eyewitness statements, and traffic camera footage to determine liability and ensure full accountability.
Depending on the investigation’s outcome, the victim’s family may bring a wrongful death claim, seeking damages for funeral costs, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this crash.
