Motorcyclist Jeb Stewart Bandy Killed in Merced County Collision

Correction: An earlier version of this post misspelled the victim’s last name. The spelling of Bandy has been corrected as of January 31, 2025.

Merced County, CA (November 10, 2024) – On November 10, 2024, Jeb Stewart Bandy, 52, of San Jose, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle collision on Volta Road, north of Highway 152, in Merced County.

Accident Details: The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. when a 32-year-old man from Los Banos, driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck, attempted a left turn into a driveway. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the truck crossed the broken yellow line and collided head-on with Bandy’s 2020 Suzuki motorcycle, which was traveling in the opposite direction. Bandy succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Investigation: Authorities stated that neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Under California law, drivers must ensure it is safe to turn across opposing lanes of traffic. In this case, the driver of the Chevrolet may have failed to assess the distance and speed of the oncoming motorcycle properly. Investigators should also look at the driver’s adherence to safe driving practices.

Bandy’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss. Such a claim could address funeral costs, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Jeb Stewart Bandy’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
