42-Year-Old Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Rosecrans Street in San Diego

San Diego, California (October 26, 2025) — A 42-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday evening in a hit-and-run crash in San Diego’s Roseville/Fleetridge neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Incident Details: The collision occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rosecrans Street near Fenelon Street. Investigators said the motorcyclist was riding a KTM motorcycle southbound in the right lane when another southbound vehicle in the left lane suddenly turned onto Fenelon Street. The abrupt maneuver cut across the rider’s path, causing the motorcycle to collide with the turning vehicle.

The motorcyclist sustained a serious knee injury that may require surgery and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The other driver fled the scene without stopping or providing assistance. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect vehicle and are asking anyone with information to contact the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

Investigation: SDPD officers are actively investigating the crash and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences to identify the fleeing vehicle. The driver’s actions, such as making a sudden lane change and turning across another vehicle’s path, suggest a violation of the California Vehicle Code, which requires drivers to ensure turns can be made safely and that drivers remain at the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death.

Detectives will analyze debris and paint transfers recovered from the roadway to help determine the make and model of the suspect vehicle. Witness statements and local traffic camera footage could prove vital in locating the driver. Police emphasized that leaving the scene of a crash with injuries constitutes a felony hit-and-run offense.

Legal Considerations: Victims of hit-and-run motorcycle crashes face significant challenges in recovering damages, especially when the at-fault driver remains unidentified. The injured motorcyclist may still have legal options through a motorcycle accident claim or uninsured motorist coverage, which can provide compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

If the suspect is identified, they could face criminal charges and civil liability. Given the driver’s reckless and unlawful decision to flee, the injured rider may have grounds to pursue additional compensation, including punitive damages. In severe injury cases involving surgeries or long-term rehabilitation, experienced personal injury attorneys can help ensure medical and financial recovery align with the true scope of the victim’s losses.

My thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist as he recovers from this devastating crash.
