Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Mark Darulis on I-805 in Chula Vista

Chula Vista, CA (May 18, 2024) – On Saturday, May 18, a tragic accident took the life of motorcyclist Mark Darulis on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista.

Accident Facts: Darulis, a 68-year-old resident of La Mesa, was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle northbound when he collided with a broken-down car near East J Street. Darulis was ejected from his motorcycle upon impact. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I believe several facts warrant examination.  Assessing the lighting conditions at the accident scene is essential. Poor visibility due to inadequate street lighting or adverse weather conditions can significantly contribute to accidents. Investigations also must be done to reveal why the broken car was there. It is crucial to determine if the broken-down car was adequately marked with hazard lights or reflective signs to alert oncoming traffic. Motorists have a duty to ensure their vehicles are visible if they are immobile on the road, especially at night. Investigating whether the motorcycle was in good working condition and met all safety standards is also imperative. Similarly, understanding the condition of the broken-down car before the accident, including any mechanical failures, could influence liability. If the investigation finds negligence was the cause of the accident, Darulis’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim to recover compensation, such as funeral expenses.

My deepest condolences to Mark Darulis’s friends and family. I hope that further investigation reveals the cause of the accident.
