West End, NC (October 11, 2025) – A 62-year-old man and his teenage passenger were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a tractor-trailer ran over their Corvette during a crash on N.C. 211 near N.C. 73 in Moore County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: Troopers said the crash happened just after 1 p.m. when the northbound Corvette driver “gave it too much gas and lost control,” crossing the center line as a tractor-trailer passed southbound. The Corvette narrowly missed the cab of the truck but slid under the trailer. The rear wheels of the big rig—carrying about 15,000 pounds of cargo—rolled over the sports car’s hood, crushing the front end. Both occupants of the Corvette, neither of whom were wearing seatbelts, were injured in the crash. The 15-year-old passenger sustained a broken ankle, while the driver suffered multiple broken bones and other serious injuries. Both were transported to Moore County Regional Hospital, and the driver was later transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for further treatment. The truck driver was not hurt.
Investigation: North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper G.J. Smith said the driver, identified as a Raeford resident who works at a local auto repair shop, was cited for careless and reckless driving. Investigators believe excessive acceleration caused the Corvette to lose traction before veering into oncoming lanes. The wreck caused significant damage to the Corvette and the truck’s rear tires, prompting a temporary closure of the roadway while wreckers cleared the vehicles. Authorities confirmed that speed and lack of seatbelt use played major roles in the severity of the injuries.
Legal Considerations: Collisions between passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers often lead to serious injuries due to the truck’s size and weight. While the driver in this case was cited, similar crashes highlight the importance of safe passing distances, restraint use, and cautious speed control. Injured victims may seek compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation, and lost wages depending on fault findings and insurance coverage. Preservation of crash reports, photos, and witness statements can be crucial in supporting recovery claims.
This was a frightening incident that could easily have been fatal. I wish both the driver and the teenage passenger a full and steady recovery.
