Modesto, CA (June 23, 2025) – A woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Modesto. Police say the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Eloy Diaz, fled the scene but was located and arrested.
Incident Details: Modesto Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Yosemite Boulevard and Severin Avenue around 1:30 a.m. for reports of a pedestrian down in the road. Upon arrival, officers found the woman unresponsive. CPR was initiated, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigators determined that the woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a westbound Toyota.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: According to Modesto Police, the driver, Eloy Diaz of Modesto, was located shortly after the collision and arrested. He faces charges of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. In fatal DUI crashes, police will examine blood alcohol levels, bar receipts, and witness accounts to support both criminal and civil liability. The victim’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim and seek punitive damages if alcohol intoxication is confirmed.
