Memphis, TN (October 10, 2025) – The Memphis Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle believed to be involved in a deadly crash that killed a woman Thursday morning on Interstate 240 near Getwell Road.
Accident Details: Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to reports of a crash on I-240 eastbound involving a Honda and a tractor-trailer. When emergency crews arrived, they found a woman inside the Honda who had died from her injuries. Police later learned that another vehicle, possibly a silver sedan, may have also been involved in the collision and left the scene before officers arrived. Initially, MPD reported two additional injuries but later confirmed that no other people were hurt.
The crash caused major traffic delays during the morning commute as investigators and cleanup crews worked to reopen the highway. All lanes were cleared and reopened later in the day.
Investigation: Memphis Police are actively searching for the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash. Investigators are reviewing roadway evidence, traffic-camera footage, and nearby surveillance video to identify the driver and determine how the collision occurred. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of family. The case remains under investigation by the MPD Traffic Bureau.
Legal Considerations: Fatal collisions that involve a fleeing driver may result in serious criminal charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death. Families of victims may pursue wrongful death claims to recover compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, and emotional suffering once the responsible driver is identified. Evidence such as police reports, surveillance footage, and eyewitness accounts can be critical to establishing liability.
This was a tragic event for the victim’s family and the Memphis community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and hope the driver responsible is brought to justice.
