San Diego, CA (July 26, 2025) – A woman has been charged after allegedly driving under the influence and fatally striking a man on a bike path in Mission Bay. The victim has been identified as Maxwell Rouette.
Accident Details: According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. Saturday near the 2500 block of East Mission Bay Drive. A vehicle veered off the road and onto the bike path, where it struck Rouette. He died at the scene.
The driver, a 50-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators are reviewing blood alcohol tests, witness statements, and surveillance footage. Criminal charges have already been filed, and the victim’s family may also have grounds to pursue a civil wrongful death claim.
