Marilyn Ann Scholz Identified as Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Woodland, CA

Sacramento, CA (December 12, 2025) – Authorities have identified Marilyn Ann Scholz, 87, of Woodland as the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Friday.

Accident Details: According to the Woodland Police Department, the crash happened Friday between a vehicle and a pedestrian near West Cross and California Streets. The vehicle struck Scholz. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The police indicated that there were no signs that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Scholz was taken to the hospital with major injuries. The Sacramento Coroner’s Office reported that Scholz died Sunday, December 14.

Investigation: The Woodland Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision near West Cross Street and California Street.

Investigators will examine the scene to determine how and where Marilyn Ann Scholz was struck, including the point of impact, vehicle damage, and the pedestrian’s path of travel.

Authorities are expected to review witness statements and any available surveillance or traffic camera footage from the area to clarify lighting conditions, traffic flow, and whether the driver had sufficient time to see and react to the pedestrian.

Although the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, investigators will still evaluate speed, attentiveness, and compliance with traffic laws to establish a complete and accurate account of the incident.

Legal Considerations: Under California law, drivers are required to exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians, particularly in areas where people are likely to be present.

Even when a driver is not impaired, civil liability may arise if the investigation finds that the driver failed to maintain a proper lookout, drove too fast for conditions, or otherwise acted negligently.

For Marilyn Ann Scholz’s family, the loss of a loved one is deeply painful. A wrongful death claim may allow surviving family members to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, and the loss of companionship, care, and guidance Scholz provided. While no legal action can undo this tragedy, pursuing a claim can help provide accountability and financial support during a very difficult time.

Our deepest condolences go out to Marilyn Scholz’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.
