Chula Vista, CA (July 30, 2025) – A city maintenance worker was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday morning while performing roadway work in Chula Vista.
Accident Details: According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on East H Street near the 805 Freeway off-ramp. The victim was standing in a designated work zone when a car entered the area and hit him. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are investigating how the vehicle entered the work zone and whether speed, distraction, or failure to obey traffic control signs played a role. In fatal work zone crashes, the victim’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver or other liable parties.
