Marin County, CA (January 14, 2026) – The coroner’s office identified Lucia Jennifer Blandia Sontay Vicente, 19, as the woman who was hit by a car and killed in a crosswalk in San Rafael on January 14, 2026.
Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred around 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Summit Avenue and Point San Pedro Road in San Rafael.
Vicente was hit by a car in the crosswalk and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle was not arrested and was not injured.
Investigation: The CHP is continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian collision that occurred near Summit Avenue and Point San Pedro Road in San Rafael. Investigators will examine how Lucia Jennifer Blandina Sontay Vicente was struck while she was in the crosswalk, including the vehicle’s speed, the driver’s line of sight, and whether the driver had sufficient time to stop.
The CHP will also review physical evidence from the scene, witness statements, and any available surveillance or traffic camera footage to establish a clear timeline and determine whether distraction, failure to yield, or other factors contributed to the crash.
Legal Considerations: California law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians who are lawfully within marked crosswalks and to use due care to avoid collisions. Even if the driver was not arrested, civil liability may still apply if the investigation determines the driver failed to yield or was otherwise negligent.
For Vicente’s loved ones, this is an unimaginable loss of a young woman’s life. If the driver was negligent, a wrongful death claim may help surviving family members pursue compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the immeasurable loss of companionship caused by this tragedy.
I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the family and loved ones of Lucia Jennifer Blandina Sontay Vicente during this difficult time.
