HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 14, 2025) — County authorities have identified a woman killed in a fatal hit-and-run collision in Hollywood as 54-year-old Linda Pine.
Accident Details: Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division were called to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place at 12:32 a.m. Thursday regarding a vehicle crash, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.
According to the LAPD, Pine was traveling north on Wilton when a woman driving a Range Rover east on Sunset slammed into Pine’s white Mazda sedan. The impact trapped Pine inside her vehicle. Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded and attempted to free her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video from the scene showed debris from the wreck scattered on both sides of Sunset. The driver of the Range Rover fled the scene on foot and remains at large, police said. Fox 11 reported the Range Rover had been reported stolen.
Investigation: The Los Angeles Police Department closed the area around Sunset and Wilton while officers investigated the collision. Authorities are searching for the female driver who fled on foot after the crash.
The fact that the Range Rover had been reported stolen adds another dimension to the investigation. Police have not released a description of the fleeing driver or provided information about potential suspects.
Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run collisions involving stolen vehicles present unique legal challenges for victims’ families. When a driver flees on foot after a fatal crash, identifying and locating the responsible party becomes the first hurdle. If the driver is never found, families may need to explore other avenues for compensation.
California law allows victims to pursue claims through uninsured motorist coverage when the at-fault driver cannot be identified or lacks insurance. Since the vehicle was stolen, the registered owner typically would not be liable for the crash unless they negligently allowed the theft to occur.
Wrongful death claims in hit-and-run cases seek to recover damages for funeral expenses, medical costs before death, and the loss of financial support and companionship. When a driver uses a stolen vehicle and flees, it demonstrates consciousness of guilt and results in enhanced criminal charges if the suspect is eventually apprehended.
The LAPD’s investigation will focus on identifying the driver through witness statements, surveillance footage, and forensic evidence from the abandoned Range Rover.
We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Linda Pine as they cope with this sudden tragedy.
