Kelly Calderon Identified as Victim in Fatal Hit-and-Run in South Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA (April 9, 2025) – Authorities have identified 28-year-old Kelly Calderon as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Tuesday morning in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Incident Details: The crash occurred just after midnight on April 8, near the intersection of Figueroa Street and West Colden Avenue. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were called to the scene at 12:02 a.m., where they found Calderon unresponsive in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on Figueroa Street at a high rate of speed when Calderon, who was crossing the street, was struck. The driver fled the scene without stopping, and as of Wednesday, no description of the vehicle or suspect has been released.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the crash to contact the LAPD’s South Traffic Bureau for help locating the driver responsible.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The LAPD’s South Traffic Bureau is currently investigating the case. Under California law, drivers involved in a collision that causes injury or death are legally obligated to stop, provide assistance, and notify the authorities. Failure to do so can lead to felony charges. In addition to locating the driver, investigators will assess whether road conditions, speeding, or driver behavior contributed to the accident.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation and identification of the driver, the Calderon family may also have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim once the driver is identified. Such claims can compensate for funeral expenses, emotional distress, and loss of companionship.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Kelly Calderon during this time.
