Portola Valley, CA (January 20, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision on Highway 35/Skyline Boulevard in Portola Valley claimed the life of 29-year-old Justyn Snyder of Union City on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Accident Details: The accident, which occurred around 5:30 PM just south of the intersection with Highway 84, shut down all lanes of traffic for several hours. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a northbound vehicle crossed double yellow lines in an attempt to pass slower traffic, resulting in a devastating head-on collision with a southbound car driven by Snyder. Sadly, Snyder succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the northbound vehicle sustained major injuries and was transported to Stanford Hospital. The CHP is currently investigating the incident to determine the exact sequence of events and any contributing factors.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Crossing double yellow lines to pass is generally a violation of traffic laws and demonstrates a disregard for the safety of others. The investigation should also consider other potential contributing factors, such as road conditions, visibility, and any possible mechanical issues with either vehicle.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, Snyder’s family may be able to bring a wrongful death claim against the negligent party. This claim may compensate them for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional distress.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Justyn Snyder during this devastating time.
