Hit-and-Run Crash Kills Juan Villegas Martinez in Pacoima

PACOIMA, CA (October 22, 2025) — A pedestrian was killed Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle in Pacoima, and the driver fled the scene without offering help, authorities said.

Accident Details: The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Ralston Avenue. Police say a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was heading south on Van Nuys when it hit a pedestrian walking diagonally through the intersection.

Instead of stopping, the driver continued southbound without calling 911 or providing assistance. When paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived, they found the victim unresponsive and declared him dead at the scene.

The pedestrian was later identified as 53-year-old Juan Villegas Martinez, a Pacoima resident. Authorities confirmed his identity on Wednesday after notifying his family. The area was closed to traffic during the investigation, and officials canvassed for witnesses and video footage.

Investigation: The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division is continuing to review surveillance video from nearby stores and traffic cameras. A short clip released by detectives shows a white truck believed to be involved in the collision. The pickup may have visible front-end damage.

Police are urging local residents, businesses, and drivers with dashboard or security cameras to review any footage recorded around the time of the crash. Detectives are hoping additional tips will lead to the identification of the vehicle and driver involved.

A standing reward of up to $50,000 is being offered through the Los Angeles City Council’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with relevant details is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8116 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.

Legal Considerations: Once a hit-and-run suspect is located, the family of a deceased pedestrian may file a wrongful death claim. These claims can include funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional loss. Investigators will also assess whether speed, lighting, visibility, and traffic signal timing played a role in the incident.

We extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of Juan Villegas Martinez.
