Joyce Sinding & William StCyr Injured in Semi-Truck Collision on Highway 14 in Minnesota

Balaton, MN (June 5, 2025) — Two people were hospitalized Thursday evening following a crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on Highway 14 in Lyon County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 5:28 p.m. as both vehicles, a 2023 Freightliner semi-truck with trailer and a 2018 Buick Encore, were traveling westbound on Highway 14 near its intersection with Highway 91. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Buick, 80-year-old Joyce Sinding of Lakeville, and the driver of the Freightliner, 45-year-old William StCyr of Winnebago, Nebraska, were both transported to Avera-Tyler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Balaton Fire and Ambulance, and Tyler Avera Ambulance.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. Investigators will likely assess whether either driver failed to maintain a safe following distance, was distracted, or contributed to the collision in another way.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured parties may have the right to pursue personal injury claims to help recover medical expenses, lost income, and compensation for pain and suffering.

Wishing both drivers a full and speedy recovery.
