Lodi, CA (January 5, 2025) – In a heartbreaking incident early Sunday morning, John Alexander, an 86-year-old father of 11, was killed in a suspected DUI crash on Interstate 5 near Turner Road in Lodi.
Accident Details: Alexander, who was returning to his Stockton home from Sacramento, was struck at high speed by a 29-year-old driver allegedly under the influence. Alexander’s large family, including over 120 grandchildren, is mourning the loss of the man they called “our king.”
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The driver who struck John Alexander faces felony criminal charges and could also face significant civil consequences. Under California law, driving under the influence is generally a breach of a driver’s duty of care to others on the road. This breach often forms the basis for negligence claims in civil court.
If the driver’s impaired state is found to have directly caused the fatal crash, Alexander’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim. This type of claim seeks to hold the at-fault party accountable for the financial and emotional harm caused by their actions. Compensation in a wrongful death lawsuit can address funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the financial support the deceased would have provided.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of John Alexander during this difficult time. His family has set up a GoFundMe page. Please contribute if you can.
