Stockton, CA (April 7, 2025) – Authorities have identified 84-year-old Joe Hou as the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle last week in Stockton. The Stockton Police Department confirmed that Hou was hit on the morning of March 31 and later died from his injuries.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the area of East March Lane and Holiday Drive. According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and called 911 following the collision. Emergency personnel responded quickly, and Hou was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As officers investigated the incident, the westbound lanes of East March Lane from Holiday Drive were closed for several hours to collect evidence and reconstruct the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: While the driver remained on the scene and no initial citations were reported, authorities continued investigating the crash’s circumstances. Investigators will examine factors such as visibility at the time of the incident, speed, right-of-way compliance, and potential pedestrian movement in the roadway.
Depending on what the investigation reveals, Hou’s family may consider pursuing a wrongful death claim, which could help cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and the emotional impact of the loss.
My sympathies to the Hou family and their loved ones during this difficult time.
