Jammie Niemeyer; Semi Driver Injured in Pickup–Semi Collision on Highway 210 in Minnesota

Underwood, Minnesota (October 25, 2025) — Two people were injured Saturday afternoon when a pickup truck and semi collided along Highway 210, just west of Underwood, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in Tordenskjold Township near milepost 37. Authorities said a westbound 2014 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck and an eastbound 2003 Ford F-150 pickup collided on the highway. The pickup’s driver, a 49-year-old woman from Clitherall, was transported to the Lake Region Hospital emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi driver, a 46-year-old man from Glenwood, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was not hospitalized.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and investigators confirmed that alcohol was not a contributing factor. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Underwood Fire Department, and Ringdahl Ambulance responded to the scene to assist with patient care and traffic control.

Investigation: The Minnesota State Patrol is leading the investigation into what caused the two vehicles to collide. Early reports have not indicated whether one of the drivers crossed the center line or if another factor, such as a lane deviation, road condition, or mechanical issue, contributed to the crash. Investigators will likely review tire marks, impact points, and vehicle positions to determine which direction the vehicles were traveling and whether either driver made an evasive maneuver before impact.

Authorities noted that the collision took place on a two-lane stretch of Highway 210, which can be challenging during times of glare, crosswinds, or uneven pavement. Mechanical inspections of both vehicles are also expected to rule out issues such as brake failure or tire blowouts.

Legal Considerations: Even though both drivers appear to have survived with non-life-threatening injuries, collisions involving semi-trucks often result in significant property damage and potential long-term medical complications. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured woman may be entitled to pursue a truck accident claim or a car accident case.

If it is determined that the semi driver failed to maintain their lane or that the trucking company’s vehicle had mechanical or maintenance issues, liability could extend to the carrier itself. Commercial drivers and their employers are held to higher safety standards under state and federal law, and violations such as fatigue, inadequate maintenance, or distracted driving can significantly impact fault.

Even when injuries are described as non-life-threatening, victims of head-on or side-impact crashes frequently experience lingering pain, concussion symptoms, or musculoskeletal injuries that may require ongoing care and rehabilitation. Consulting with an attorney familiar with commercial trucking regulations can help ensure that all physical, emotional, and financial damages are properly addressed.

I wish both drivers a full and swift recovery and thank the local emergency responders whose efforts helped ensure the safety of everyone involved in this serious highway collision.
