Ismahan Abdikadir Nagati, 26, Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on U.S. 33 in Ohio

Logan County, Ohio (October 22, 2025) — A 26-year-old woman from Columbus was killed Wednesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash involving two commercial trucks on U.S. 33 eastbound near milepost 18 in Jefferson Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. when a 2015 Kia Rio driven by Ismahan Abdikadir Nagati became disabled in the left lane of U.S. 33. Investigators say a Mack dump truck, driven by a 60-year-old man from DeGraff, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the disabled Kia. The impact pushed Nagati’s vehicle into the right lane, where it was hit again by an International tractor-trailer driven by a 69-year-old man from Cardington.

The force of the collision caused both trucks to overturn. The dump truck spilled its load of gravel onto the highway before veering off the right shoulder, while the semi-truck also left the roadway and overturned. Nagati was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, and the semi driver sustained minor injuries. Eastbound lanes of U.S. 33 were shut down for several hours as crews cleared debris and conducted an investigation.

Investigation: The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, focusing on why the dump truck driver was unable to stop in time to avoid the disabled vehicle. Investigators will likely review visibility conditions, reaction time, and whether the Kia had hazard lights activated before impact. The stretch of U.S. 33 where the collision occurred is a high-speed corridor, making rear-end crashes particularly severe when disabled vehicles remain in active lanes.

Commercial truck crashes often require examining braking systems, maintenance records, and driver logs to determine whether mechanical failure, fatigue, or inattention played a role. Authorities will also assess whether the dump truck operated within weight limits and whether the spilled gravel contributed to the chain-reaction crash.

Legal Considerations: Rear-end collisions involving stopped vehicles frequently raise questions of negligence, especially when commercial vehicles are involved. If investigators confirm that the dump truck driver failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead, both the driver and the trucking company could be held liable for wrongful death damages under Ohio law.

The family of Ismahan Nagati may pursue a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages. They may also explore whether poor roadway design, inadequate signage, or a lack of emergency shoulders contributed to the crash.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ismahan Abdikadir Nagati as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
