13-Year-Old Isaiah Harper Injured in Terrifying Hit-and-Run in Redding

Redding, CA (March 13, 2024) – In a harrowing incident that has shaken the local community, 13-year-old Isaiah Harper was struck by a truck in a hit-and-run accident in Redding while walking home. The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 44 and Victor Avenue. Despite the traumatic experience, Harper is speaking out, hoping to aid in the search for the driver responsible.

Incident Details: Isaiah described the vehicle as a silver GMC pickup with distinctive red letters on the front, tinted windows, and likely damage to the front left end on the driver’s side. The accident unfolded as Isaiah, believing he had the green light to cross, was halfway through the crosswalk when the truck, coming off the highway ramp, ran a red light and collided with him. The impact was so forceful that Isaiah was thrown back several feet, resulting in his phone being smashed and significant internal trauma.

Emergency Response and Medical Attention: Isaiah’s mother, Amanda Vial, rushed her son to Shasta Regional Medical Center after receiving a distressing message about the incident. Due to the severity of his injuries, Isaiah was life-flighted to UC Davis Medical Center for overnight observation. Medical examinations revealed fluid around his kidneys and pelvis and an enlarged spleen, though, fortunately, surgery was not required.

Analysis of the Incident: Hit-and-run is an incredibly serious criminal offense. If and when the driver is found, they may face serious charges. Additionally, the family of Isaiah may seek damages from the responsible driver in a personal injury. At this point, there is no telling what type of long-term effects Isaiah’s injuries may have, so it’s crucial that police identify the driver responsible so that the family may seek justice.

Community Concerns and Safety Measures: Residents along Victor Avenue have expressed concerns about the street’s safety, citing frequent speeding and disregard for traffic signals by drivers. This incident has underscored the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and vigilance in the area to prevent future accidents.

Call for Witnesses: The Redding Police Department is actively seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has details about the suspect’s truck. Isaiah and his family are grateful for his survival and recovery but are eager for justice and the apprehension of the individual responsible for this reckless act.

My thoughts are with Isaiah and his family as he recovers from this traumatic incident. I hope that his recovery is quick and that he receives the thorough medical treatment he needs.
