Ionia County, MI (August 26, 2025) – One person was killed and two others injured Tuesday afternoon when a semi-truck struck multiple vehicles on Interstate 96 in Ionia County.
Accident Details: According to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly before 4:45 p.m. near Sunfield Highway in Orange Township. Traffic on I-96 had slowed and was merging into one lane due to road construction when a tractor-trailer failed to reduce speed. Emergency responders confirmed that one person died at the scene. Two others sustained serious injuries and were transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
Investigation: The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the crash, with assistance from the Michigan State Police and local emergency services. The review will focus on whether the semi-truck driver failed to maintain a safe following distance in the construction zone.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the person who lost their life and wish the injured individuals a full recovery.
