Victorville, CA (May 28, 2024) – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the death of a local motorcyclist involved in a collision Tuesday evening. The accident occurred at around 7:17 p.m. at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Hughes Road.
Incident Details: According to authorities, the victim, identified as 36-year-old Igor A. Matyashuk of Victorville, was traveling north on Rodeo Drive. At the same time, a Mercedes was heading west on Hughes Road. Matyashuk struck the driver-side door of the Mercedes and was ejected from his motorcycle. Upon arrival, first responders found a severely damaged blue-and-white Yamaha sports bike and a black Mercedes-Benz obstructing the roadway. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, Matyashuk was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger, who initially declined medical attention at the scene, later sought treatment at a local hospital via private transport.
Legal Implications: The Victorville Police Department is investigating to determine if any contributing factors such as speed, distractions, or right of way violations played a role in the fatal incident. Interestingly, the north and southbound traffic on Rodeo Drive does not have a stop sign, while the west and eastbound traffic on Hughes Road does. If it’s determined that the Mercedes-Benz negligently ran through the stop sign or failed to yield to traffic, the family of the victim may have grounds for a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for their loss, funeral expenses, and other related costs. However, more information is needed from the investigation to figure out the cause.
