Humumed Ali Injured in I-85 Tractor-Trailer Crash in Banks County; Other Driver Cited

Banks County, GA (April 23, 2025) – A two-truck collision on Interstate 85 in Banks County early Wednesday morning left one truck driver injured and another cited for failure to maintain lane, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 6:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-85 near Exit 149 in the Banks Crossing area. Authorities say Derek Corbin, 32, of Maryland, was driving a Freightliner southbound when he veered from his lane and struck a parked Freightliner on the shoulder that was experiencing mechanical issues.

The parked truck was occupied by 48-year-old Humumed Ali of Ohio, who reported injuries at the scene and was transported by Banks County EMS. Corbin was uninjured and later cited for failure to maintain lane.

The crash caused containers of cherries from Corbin’s trailer to spill across the highway, prompting road closures in the right lane and the Exit 149 southbound ramp. All lanes were reopened by 10:00 a.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Legal Considerations: In rear-end or shoulder collisions involving commercial trucks, investigators typically assess driver attentiveness, road conditions, and whether adequate emergency precautions were taken. Since Corbin was cited, he and potentially his employer may face civil liability if it is determined that his negligence caused the crash.

Humumed Ali may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim to recover medical expenses and other damages if the crash resulted from unsafe operation of the second truck.

Ongoing Investigation: The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. No further charges or developments have been announced at this time.

I wish Humumed Ali a full and swift recovery from his injuries.
