Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 10 Injures Tow Truck Operator Johnny Sofranko in Palm Desert

Palm Desert, CA (June 24, 2024) – In the early hours of Monday, June 24th, a tragic hit-and-run accident left tow truck operator Johnny Sofranko critically injured.

Accident Details: The incident occurred on Interstate 10, east of Cook Street, while Sofranko was assisting a stranded motorist. At around 1:00 a.m., as Sofranko was loading the vehicle onto his truck, he was struck by a passing vehicle and thrown approximately 20 feet into the air. The driver fled the scene, leaving Sofranko with severe injuries. Sofranko, who was rushed to Desert Region Medical Center in Palm Springs, remains in critical condition.

Investigation: Authorities are still looking for the driver responsible and urge the public to notify them of any information.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury lawyer, I find that several factors require further examination. The primary focus of the investigation is to identify and apprehend the driver who fled the scene. Gathering evidence such as surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras or businesses, eyewitness testimonies, and forensic analysis of any debris left at the scene will be crucial. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively seeking information from the public to aid in this effort. Once identified, the driver could face serious criminal charges. Additionally, Sofranko may pursue a personal injury lawsuit for damages. This can include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related costs.

My thoughts are with Johnny Sofranko and his family during this difficult time. His family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with his support. Please contribute if you are able.
