Hit-and-Run Incident in Buena Park Leaves Cyclist Ralph Liberto Severely Injured

Buena Park, CA (July 26, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run incident on the evening of July 26 has left a 65-year-old cyclist, identified as Ralph Liberto, with severe injuries.

Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: The collision occurred around 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of Marshall Avenue and 4th Street in Buena Park. Surveillance footage from the scene captured the harrowing moment when a light-colored sedan struck Liberto. According to Liberto, the driver accelerated towards him deliberately. Liberto’s daughter, Jacque, reported that her father attempted to maneuver out of the way but could not avoid the collision.

Liberto suffered severe injuries, including a shattered right hip and a broken left knee. He has undergone two surgeries and remains hospitalized in Orange County. The driver, who is seen fleeing the scene in the footage, has yet to be identified or apprehended. Authorities urge anyone with information about the vehicle or the incident to come forward.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that this case highlights several critical areas of investigation. The most pressing issue is identifying the driver of the light-colored sedan. Surveillance video is a crucial piece of evidence, and investigators will need to enhance this footage to extract details such as the vehicle’s make and model and potentially identify any distinguishing features. This investigation will also involve canvassing the area for witnesses or additional video footage that may provide further clues.

Establishing fault in hit-and-run accidents involves proving that the driver’s actions were negligent or intentional. In this case, there may be evidence of deliberate intent, which can significantly impact the case. Legal action may include criminal charges against the driver and civil claims for damages.

Liberto may be able to file a personal injury claim for his injuries.

I wish Ralph Liberto a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.
