Highway Collision Claims the Life of Cyclist Cynthia Perez in Concord

Concord, CA (November 24, 2024) – Cynthia Perez, 34, of Concord, tragically lost her life following a collision on Highway 242.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Perez was traveling on her bicycle in the far right southbound lane when a GMC Yukon struck her. The accident occurred just north of the Oliveira Road overpass. Perez succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The Yukon driver remained at the site of the accident and cooperated with authorities. No arrests have been made, and the CHP continues to investigate. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact the CHP.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that the ongoing investigation will focus on determining the circumstances surrounding the collision, including whether driver negligence or other factors played a role. In cases like these, investigators will examine:

  • Driver Conduct: Did the Yukon driver drive at excessive speeds? Was the driver distracted? Did the driver fail to adhere to traffic laws?
  • Road Conditions: Was there poor visibility, road maintenance issues, or other hazards?
  • Vehicle Safety: Did any vehicle conditions, including potential mechanical failures, contribute to the accident?

For the family of Cynthia Perez, a wrongful death claim could provide a pathway to seek justice and accountability if evidence of negligence emerges. Such claims may include compensation for funeral costs, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Cynthia Perez’s family, friends, and community during this heartbreaking time.
