Michie, TN (November 20, 2025) – McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck was seriously injured early Thursday morning after a collision involving a log truck and another semi-truck along Highway 57 in Michie.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. as Sheriff Buck was driving his Ford F-150 to work. According to early reports, a semi-truck hauling logs crossed into his path, resulting in a violent head-on collision. Emergency responders rushed Sheriff Buck to Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Mississippi, where he was initially listed in critical condition. He was later transferred to Regional One in Memphis and is now reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the log truck was not injured. A third semi-truck was also involved. State troopers say that the vehicle left the scene but was later located.
Investigation: The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the early-morning collision involving multiple commercial vehicles. As part of their work, investigators are examining several critical factors to understand how the sequence of events unfolded:
- Lane position and vehicle dynamics. Troopers will determine whether the log truck crossed into Sheriff Buck’s lane, whether the sheriff had any opportunity to brake or swerve, and how the movements of the third semi-truck influenced traffic conditions leading up to the impact.
- Scene documentation. Investigators will map the crash site, measure the skid marks, and analyze the debris patterns. These details help determine vehicle speeds, angles of impact, and the direction of travel during the collision.
- Environmental conditions. Since the crash occurred before sunrise, officials will assess lighting, visibility, roadway markings, and whether early-morning fog or shadows contributed to the incident.
- Mechanical inspections. All vehicles may undergo inspection to rule out brake defects, steering failures, tire issues, or improper cargo loading.
Investigators will also interview each driver, collect witness accounts, and review any available dash camera footage or nearby surveillance video. Event data recorders (“black boxes”) inside the trucks may provide speed, braking, and throttle information in the seconds leading up to impact.
Legal Considerations: Commercial drivers must maintain full control of their vehicles. If a truck fails to maintain its lane or creates a hazard by leaving the scene, such behavior may be considered negligent.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Sheriff Buck may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim if evidence shows another driver’s negligence caused the crash. Potential compensation can include medical expenses, lost wages, long-term rehabilitation needs, and emotional distress.
I extend my sincere wishes for Sheriff Guy Buck’s recovery and healing following this collision.
