Temple City, CA (August 17, 2024) – A heartbreaking accident occurred on August 17 in Temple City, California, when a suspected drunken driver crashed head-on into a family’s vehicle, leading to the tragic deaths of Jennifer Argueta and her 10-year-old daughter, Sabrina Argueta.
Accident Details: The accident occurred just after 1 p.m. near Temple City Boulevard and Gidley Street. The Argueta family was struck by a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Diego Santoscruz, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time. Raymundo Argueta, Jennifer Argueta’s husband and Sabrina Argueta’s father, was also in the vehicle and sustained broken ribs.
Investigation: Santoscruz, who was reportedly on probation for a prior DUI offense and driving with a suspended license, faces severe charges, including two counts each of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several avenues of investigation are critical to ensuring a full accounting of what happened and determining liability. Driving under the influence (DUI) can be considered negligent due to the inherent risks impaired drivers pose to public safety. It is a breach of the duty of care every driver owes to others on the road.
In this tragic case, Diego Santoscruz’s alleged DUI exemplifies such negligence, as it led to a fatal head-on collision. This negligence is not only addressed through criminal charges but can also form the basis of a civil wrongful death claim. While the criminal proceedings aim to hold Santoscruz accountable for his actions through the justice system, a wrongful death lawsuit could provide the family with compensation for their loss.
I extend my deepest condolences to Jennifer and Sabrina Argueta’s family and friends during this challenging time. Their family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral costs. Please contribute if you can.
