Fresno, CA (October 16, 2024) – On Wednesday night, October 16, 2023, a tragic crash in Fresno claimed the lives of two sisters, 25-year-old Mang Yang and 18-year-old Eliza Yang.
Accident Details: The incident occurred after a chase involving law enforcement and a suspect identified as 18-year-old Adam Canales. Canales, a known gang member on probation for firearm possession, fled from officers after a disturbance was reported, ultimately crashing into the sisters’ home near Cedar Avenue and Nevada Avenue in southeast Fresno. Both women were tragically killed in the crash, and Canales was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that investigators will need to explore several legal issues. The primary focus will be on Canales’ actions, particularly his decision to evade law enforcement and drive recklessly, resulting in a fatal crash. Evading police is a serious offense that can lead to criminal charges.
Civil Consequences: Fleeing from the police is often considered negligent because it puts others at risk. Here, Canales’s decision to flee from the police resulted in his crashing into the Yang sisters’ home, killing them. Their family may have grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If Canales’s negligence is proven, this lawsuit could allow the family to recover damages for their loss, including funeral expenses and emotional distress.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mang Yang and Eliza Yang. This unimaginable loss is devastating, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.
