Francis Shim, 60, Killed in Wrong-Way Hit-and-Run in West Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA (August 5, 2025) — A 60-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a wrong-way hit-and-run collision in West Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Incident Details: LAPD reports that around 2:10 p.m., a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of Bundy Drive struck Francis Shim as he stood along the curb in the 2400 block, just south of Pico Boulevard. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced Shim dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. The driver did not remain at the scene, and police have not released any description of the suspect vehicle.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are continuing their investigation, which will likely involve examining traffic camera footage, surveillance from nearby businesses, and witness statements to identify the driver. Once apprehended, the driver may face charges such as felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, the Shim family may file a wrongful death claim. This claim could seek to recover damages for funeral costs, emotional distress, lost wages, and loss of companionship.

I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Shim’s loved ones during this difficult time.
