Four Injured in Semi-Truck Crash on U.S. 61 In Iowa

Maquoketa, IA (March 12, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash north of Maquoketa left four people injured, with two requiring emergency airlift transport for serious injuries, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Incident Overview: The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities reported that a passenger vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a northbound semi-tractor trailer. The impact pushed the car into the southbound lanes of U.S. 61, triggering a secondary collision involving a separate vehicle and two parked cars.

First responders arrived quickly and coordinated the emergency response. Two victims were flown to nearby trauma centers, while two others were transported by ambulance for further medical treatment. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved.

The passenger vehicle driver was cited for failing to stop or yield while entering the intersection, which was an apparent contributing factor in the initial crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is expected to release further information as it becomes available.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are examining what led to the initial and secondary collisions, including whether road conditions, visibility, or driver negligence played a role. Investigators are also reviewing whether the semi-truck was operating within legal speed limits and whether the driver was alert and compliant with commercial driving standards at the time of the crash.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, those injured may have grounds to pursue personal injury claims to recover compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and long-term rehabilitation needs. Legal liability may also extend to multiple parties depending on the findings regarding fault and compliance with traffic laws.

I extend my hopes for a complete and swift recovery to everyone injured in this serious accident as the community awaits further updates.
