Four Injured in Hay Truck Crash on Idaho Route 25

Jerome, ID (April 5, 2025) – A serious crash involving a hay truck and an SUV closed a portion of Idaho Route 25 and sent four people to the hospital on Saturday morning. The wreck occurred when a semi-truck towing two trailers full of hay bales failed to stop at a busy intersection, scattering debris across the roadway.

Incident Details: The Idaho State Police (ISP) reported that the crash occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. The truck had just exited westbound Interstate 84 at Exit 165 when it failed to stop at the intersection with Idaho Route 25. It collided with an eastbound Ford Expedition carrying seven occupants. The impact injured four people in the Expedition. All four were taken to a nearby hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. The truck driver was not injured in the accident.

Hay bales were launched across the highway, prompting road closures. Westbound lanes of Route 25 and the I-84 westbound on-ramp were shut down for several hours as crews worked to remove the hay, truck, and trailers. The Idaho Transportation Department reported the roadway was cleared by 4 p.m.

ISP cited the truck driver for reckless driving, and the crash is still under investigation.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will examine the driver’s conduct, the truck’s maintenance history, and any potential issues involving visibility, signage, or mechanical failure.

If negligence or safety violations contributed to the accident, the injured parties may be entitled to pursue personal injury claims against the truck driver and the trucking company. These claims could cover medical bills, lost income, and other damages related to the crash.

My thoughts remain with the victims and their families, and I wish those injured a complete and timely recovery.
