San Jose, CA (February 25, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision on Interstate 680, north of Jacklin Road, left one driver dead and another person injured Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Overview: The crash occurred around 2 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-680, just north of San Jose city limits. According to CHP, one of the drivers involved, a 44-year-old man driving a 2000 Ford truck, suffered fatal injuries. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Another person involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Authorities closed three lanes of the interstate for over three hours while they investigated the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: At this time, CHP has not provided details on what led to the crash. Investigators will likely examine whether speeding, distraction, mechanical failure, or other external factors contributed to the collision. They may also review traffic camera footage and witness statements to determine how the crash unfolded.
Depending on the findings, the family of the driver who lost his life may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if another driver’s negligence contributed to the collision. Additionally, the injured party may have the option to seek compensation for medical expenses and other damages through a personal injury claim if liability is established.
As the investigation continues, those affected by this crash will be searching for answers about what happened and why. A full accounting of the circumstances will help determine whether legal action is appropriate. I extend my condolences to the family of the driver who lost his life and wish the injured party a full recovery.
