Fatal Solo-Vehicle Crash in Lakeland Village Kills Darryl Oldfield

Lakeland Village, CA (August 5, 2024) – On Monday, August 5, 2024, a tragic solo-vehicle crash in Lakeland Village resulted in the death of 75-year-old Darryl Oldfield from Lake Elsinore.

Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on northbound Grand Avenue, just south of Blanche Drive. Oldfield’s SUV lost control and collided with a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Despite the efforts of good Samaritans to extinguish the flames, emergency responders pronounced Oldfield dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the case.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The California Highway Patrol’s investigation will likely examine whether the condition of Oldfield’s vehicle contributed to the accident. This investigation includes checking for mechanical failures or defects that might have caused the vehicle to malfunction. Potential liability could extend to vehicle manufacturers or maintenance providers if a mechanical failure is discovered.

The condition of the road and surrounding environment will be scrutinized. Was there something on the road that might have contributed to the loss of control?

Depending on the findings, Oldfield’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the negligent party.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Darryl Oldfield during this difficult time.
