Loma Linda, CA (July 8, 2024) – On Monday, July 8, 2024, 88-year-old Jemie Sagulo lost his life when he was struck by a vehicle.
Accident Details: The accident occurred at midday on the 2500 block of Barton Road. Sagulo was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot. He was found lying on the ground in front of a business. He was immediately given medical care at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Sagulo succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Ongoing Investigation: The driver involved in the incident was identified as Eddalee Tolentino. He remained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with the investigation. Authorities are calling for witnesses or anyone with information about this collision to contact authorities,
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Eddalee Tolentino, as the driver, had a duty to exercise reasonable care while operating the vehicle, especially in a parking lot where pedestrian traffic is expected. Investigating whether Tolentino was distracted, speeding, or otherwise negligent is crucial. The safety measures in place within the parking lot, such as signage, pedestrian pathways, and speed bumps, need to be scrutinized. Were there adequate warnings or indicators for both drivers and pedestrians? If not, the property owner or manager might share liability. Tolentino’s vehicle should also be examined to see if a mechanical defect contributed to the collision.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Sagulo’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Jemie Sagulo during this heartbreaking and challenging time.
