St. Helena, CA (August 4, 2024) – On Sunday morning, an 81-year-old Napa resident, Jackie Rhodes, tragically lost her life following a hit-and-run accident on Highway 29.
Accident Details: Authorities believe that a vehicle struck Rhodes as she walked along the highway and then fled the scene. The incident occurred around 10:19 a.m. in an area near the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. Rhodes was discovered lying in a ditch on the highway’s east shoulder by two pedestrians. Despite being conscious and alert at the time of discovery, Rhodes was transported to a local hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries later.
Investigation: The authorities have not identified a suspect. The St. Helena Police Department is actively seeking information from the public to aid in the investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact them.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Determining who is liable in a hit-and-run case involves identifying the driver responsible for the accident. This can be challenging without a suspect, but witness statements, surveillance footage, and physical evidence from the scene may help in tracking down the driver.
If the driver is identified, Rhodes’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim and recover compensation such as funeral and burial expenses and loss of financial support.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Jackie Rhodes during this difficult time.
